Our Biographies
Karen Thomas - Karen is trained in American and International styles of dance and spent two years competing as an amateur before turning professional in 1984. As well as teaching in her own studio in Harrisonburg, Va, Karen has taught dance at James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University, Delaware State University, and many studios in the Maryland and Virginia areas. Karen teaches etiquette in Washington D.C. and in private schools in both Maryland and Virginia. She is also the instructor/owner of "Dancing With Karen". "I love dancing! It is my goal to provide quality instruction that everyone can afford. May we never let the joy of dancing or the custom of practicing social graces disappear from our lives."
Colton Hammond - Colton Hammond began playing piano at the age of 5, in 1957, studying the classical repertoire. He also learned guitar, percussion and accordion. As an adult he played as an accompanist and musical director in community theater. He studied jazz piano with Ron Elliston and formed The Colton Hammond Trio, which played at numerous local venues. He also provides music for ballroom dancing parties and classes, including The Washington Cotillion since 1990. Currently he is the keyboardist for the band "Swing'N on a Star", a local well known dance band.
